About

Our Purpose for Bay Area Family Literacy Day

This year's event mission is dedicated to Literacy Enrichment for youth, aspiring writers/authors and families in the areas of reading and writing.  It will serve as a platform where writers and entertainers can share their gifts and talents with the community and participants may positively express their voice of expression in book writing, poetry, and song.  Education institutions, non-profit organizations, and social service agencies can introduce and further educate communities about programs for literacy and publication.

History of National Family Literacy Day

National Family Literacy Day is observed each year on November 1.  Celebrated across America. This day focuses on special activities and events that showcase the importance of family literacy programs.  First held in 1994, National Literacy Day is a kickoff of National Literacy Month.  During the month of November, there are many events which are held at schools, libraries and other literacy organizations.
